For schools, PTAs & home-and-school committees

Raise more for your school, with less hassle

Collect payments before, during, and after every event. No cash to count, no bank transfers to chase, no EFTPOS terminals to rent.

Start your school's jar

🎁 The next 10 schools get $10 from us to kick off their first jar. Offer ends 18 December, the end of Term 4.

Create a jar and we'll drop $10 in, so you can see the whole flow with real money, end to end.

Here's what it looks like

One poster. One phone. One dashboard.

From the QR on the door to the money in your account: the whole loop.

Collect money before, during, and after every event

The best fundraising events collect in all three phases. Digital payments make every phase easier.

1

Before the event

Send a payment link in invitations so parents pre-pay tickets, meal deals, or sponsorships, and those who commit digitally are more likely to turn up.

2

During the event

Print a QR code for every stall, table, or entrance. Parents scan and pay from their phone. No EFTPOS bottleneck, no cash to count at the end of the night.

3

After the event

See exactly who paid and who didn't. Send a last-chance reminder, issue end-of-year donation receipts so donors can claim 30% back, and hand the treasurer a clean export.

Common concerns

What about parents who aren't tech-savvy? +
QR codes work on any smartphone. No app download needed. If a parent doesn't have a smartphone, a volunteer can process the payment for them on a school device, or they can pay later from a link.
What does it cost? +
A flat 2% platform fee on what you collect. No monthly fees, no setup costs, no contracts. Payment processing (Stripe) is separate and priced at standard NZ rates (~2.7% + 30c for a domestic card).
Is it secure? +
Yes. Payments run through Stripe, which is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified, the same security standard used by banks. Your school never handles card details; Stripe does. Staff accounts are protected with strong sign-in controls: Cloudflare Turnstile on signup, account lockout after repeated failed logins, and short session timeouts. All traffic is over HTTPS.
Do we need special equipment? +
No. Just a printer for the QR code posters. Parents scan with their own phones. No EFTPOS terminals to rent or set up.
What about internet access at events? +
As long as parents have mobile data or WiFi, they can pay. If the venue has no signal, they can pay later from the same link.
How do we reconcile payments for our accounts? +
Every payment triggers an emailed receipt to the donor. Your dashboard shows who paid (and who hasn't) in real time, with a one-click CSV export for the treasurer. Stripe's dashboard holds the full transaction history if your auditor asks for it.
Is TipJar a charity or a business? +
A small New Zealand private business, funded entirely by the 2% platform fee. No ads, no data resale. Based in Aotearoa, support from a real person. More on the about page.
Does this meet the NZ Privacy Act? +
Yes. We collect only the minimum donor information needed to process a payment (name and email, where given). Card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers; your school doesn't hold payment details either. Full details on our privacy page.
What if we already use another platform? +
No problem. Schools often use different tools for different events. You can start with one event as a pilot and expand from there.
