FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the card fees?

Stripe processes every payment. For a standard NZ card that's about 2.7% + 30c a payment, and international cards cost a little more. The card networks set these fees, and every online payment provider pays them.

How does the 2% work?

TipJar.nz takes 2% of each payment, only when someone pays. It covers the live dashboard, QR codes, payment links, reminders, receipts and everything we build next. With card fees on top, call it about 5c in the dollar all-in.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. No setup fee, no monthly fee, no minimum and no contract. You only pay when you collect. Stop using TipJar.nz and you stop paying: there's nothing to cancel.

When do I get paid?

The money lands in your bank the next business day after a payment. The live dashboard shows where every dollar is.

How does TipJar.nz compare to EFTPOS?

An EFTPOS terminal typically costs $20 to $40 a month to rent, plus setup, often on a 12 to 36 month contract, and it's one place to pay per terminal. With TipJar.nz you can put a QR code on every table, booth and notice for nothing upfront. More places to pay means more people pay.

Can supporters pay with any card?

Yes. Visa, Mastercard, American Express and the other major cards, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. Stripe handles the payment securely.

Why not just use cash or bank transfers?

You can, and plenty of groups still do. But fewer people carry cash, and a bank transfer means remembering an account number, typing a reference and actually following through later. With TipJar.nz, supporters scan a QR code and pay on the spot. The fee often pays for itself in payments you'd otherwise miss.

Is there a free plan?

There are no plans or tiers. Every jar gets every feature: unlimited jars and QR codes, the live dashboard, payment links, reminders and receipts. You pay 2%, plus card fees, when you collect.

Ready to start collecting?

Free to start. 2% when you collect, plus card fees. Nothing else.
